Ohh Bleached Hair Woes...?

So my 'smart' neighbour has naturally dark brown hair. She decided she wanted to go blonde... so she bleached her hair (with a store kit) She also already had red dye in her hair. The bleach took to the roots and made them bleach blonde... and lightned the red. A few weeks later she re-bleached her hair.. Now its an all over bleach blonde but with what looks like a band of red hair dye around her head. She put a dark blonde hair dye in it and the colour didnt take at all.

We've both heard that if you use brown or black hair dye it will more then likely turn a muddy green colour.

Money is tight right now... so any suggestions on how to fix this mess without going to the hair dresser would be great!

It sounds like her hair is pretty damaged and so you should start with a condition. Sally's has a good cheap protein conditioner which will help strengthen her hair:

Queen Helena Cholesterol Hair Conditioning Cream

its super cheap too, smells weird but that wont last on the hair.

Next is to decide if you want to keep going and get to blond or get a brown color to make it look good right now.

Your right about putting a dark color over it, use a protein filler ( also at sally's) with a medium golden brown and it will turn out closer to the color on the box and not all green.

Good luck!

i bleached my hair and it was pretty blonde

and i didn't like it so i dyed it black and it look fine

it turned out black

well past experience if you dye it black it will prob be dark brown

depending on how long you keep it in

keep it in a long time well a while

to make it black

maybe try two times for black black

but i mean yea i just bleached my hair like a week ago

the bleached peices are now like dark brown

but i didn't leave it in that long

condition condition condition!

Tell her to try not to do too much more to it or else she'll soon be seeing breakage (if she hasn't already).

You can try to lighten the strip of red by applying bleach to ONLY that area and rinse it after 15-20 minutes. Then find a nice neutral color (no ash! some gold will also help) and do an all over tint. If it ends up being too green you can use a temporary rinse in red to help neutralize this.
