Dyed my hair professionally but want a lighter color. How to fix?

This is my 1st time dyeing my hair hence, I am very new to hair dying so bare with me lol. My hair is naturally black (turns really dark brown in sun, not blue) and I got the bottom half layer of hair dyed a warm brown. I thought it would come out a brown but it came out a fairly dark brown. It's not very noticable and I want it to be a bit lighter. I don't want to dye my hair again. What will happen if I wash with regular shampoo (instead of shampoo made for dyed hair)? Or would shampoos for sustaining light brown or blonde hair lighten it? Someone told me that John Frieda's shampoo for brown hair would lighten it. Can you recommend some specific products?

-- I'm not sure what double bleaching looks like so can someone tell me if that is what my hair dresser did? She first put the white-ish dye stuff in my hair and waited for about 45 minutes (but the color didn't show) and then put more in for about 30 minutes. She massaged it in and then rinsed it out.

sounds like she just used plain ol' bleach..

you can buy that yourself and leave it on longer (but i wouldnt recommend it)

nope..diff shampoo isnt going to fade it unless it used to be lighter and you put color on top of it..then it makes the color fade... but it wont help if it was already dark to begin w/

hang out in the sun if that helps you or go to the tanning bed? if you like going...by all means dont get skin cancer because of this answer though.. hehe

that's all i know of, unless you just bleach it some more!

i also have dark hair so dying it a lighter clolour usually doesnt work. i reckon u should ask ur hairdresser to highlight that piece, she should put a lot (depending on u) of thin highlights there then dye it that way u will see the difference. if u worried about ruining ur hair just use a good treatment after dying in. i suggest v05 hot oil it works like a charm

goodluck

The very best thing for you to do, is go back to where you had it done and tell them you are NOT happy! They will redo it for free and your problem will be solved.

There's NO shampoo that I've ever heard of that will make it lighter.

Just go back....Things like this happen all the time, and salons are used to re dos to make their customers happy.

Just DO NOT attempt anything on your own! You're only asking for trouble if you do that.

When hair has been lightened it cant go back to darker with out adding more color. Your natural haircolor has been lifted out and remved. Regular shampoo will Just not protect your chemically processed has as much.

Shampoos do not color or lighten hair per say. You need either A, get it died back to the original color as close as possible, but give it a month or two to recondition or B, get our hair dresser to bleach and die it a different color again after giving it time to restore condition first. The answer to the your bleaching question; yes it was and has to be bleached first going from darker to lighter. It is like creating a clean canvas to paint on.

Condition with Matrix Bio and V05 hot oil treatments

Also, have your hairdresser do a sample strand next time...

Sorry, my mom ran a salon out our home when I was growing up....learned a few things...good luck!
